Battle of Midway WW2 Naval battle between United States and Japan. Weakened the Japanese threat in the Pacific.
Battle of Stalingrad Unsuccessful German attack on the city of Stalingrad during WW2. From 1942-1943. Furthest extent of German Advance into the Soviet Union.
Battle of The Bulge WW2 battle December 1944 between Germany and Allied Troops.The last German offensive in the west. General George S Patton led the allied troops to victory
Holocaust Murder of about 12 million people, including 6 million Jews by the Nazis during WW2
Anne Frank 1929-1945. Jewish girl whose diary was published in 1947 and it became a literary classic of the Holocaust. She hid with her family from the Nazis in Amsterdam during WW2 before being captured. She died in a Nazi concentration camp.
Harry S Truman 1884-1945. 33rd president of the United States from 1945-1953. In 1945 he decided to use the atomic bombs against Japan, leading to the end of WW2.
Douglas MacArthur 1880-1964. General who commanded American Forces in the southwest Pacific during WW2
George S Patton 1885-1945. General in the United States Army, who helped lead the allies to victory in the Battle of the Bulge
Dwight D Eisenhower 1890-1969. 39th president of the United States from 1953-1961. Commanded the Allied Forces in Western Europe during WW2. In 1957, he sent troops to a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas to enforce desegregation.
Normandy, France Region in northern France along the English Channel, where the Allies invaded Axis-occupied France in WW2.
Chester Nimitz 1885-1966. Military commander of the United States Pacific fleet during WW2; helped the United States win the Battle of Midway.
Iwo Jima, Japan Small Pacific Island off of Japan. Site of major battle during WW2.
Hiroshima, Japan City in Southwestern Japan. The first city where an atomic bomb was dropped, on August 6, 1945.
concentration camp Prison in which the Nazis enslaved and murdered millions of Jews and other groups during WW2.
